Back to Quilting

This is what else DH gave to me for Christmas. A Fat quarter bundle. Actually 2 fat quarter bundles but I started with this one. He Said Nancy from Bearly Quilting was very impressed when he walked in 2 days before Christmas and confidently stated "I would like to get my wife a gift, I think a selection of coordinating fat quarters would be nice."

I was very excited to get started so I made this on Christmas day. The kids were busy playing with their gifts and DH watching football and cooking it was a perfect day. This pattern and tutorial came from CrazyMomQuilts and boy was I inspired. She calls it Flea Market Fancy. I plan on quilting it this AM. So watch for completed photographs.

DD#2 up to something.....Cute though.

Here is my fabric selection for Bonnie Hunter's new mystery at Quiltville.com that starts TOMORROW! She is calling it Double Delight. I have done all her mysteries and love every one. SIL Kristi, You should try this one. The directions are always really good and a beginner can easily make it. There is also a fantastic chat group associated with Quiltville. You can join here.

While on our long weekend away DH took me to 3 LQSs. I had to buy something form every one. I have 2 yards of Cheddar and 3 yards of indigo a selection of repro FQs. I knew that didn't want to do a repro quilt but it seemed that was all the indigo I could find. Until....I visited the last one (of course) and bought the end of the bolt for 25% off.

Here is my bounty.

Weekend Away

We all had a wonderful Christmas. I hope you all did too. As I look at at this photo it appears as though some of us enjoyed it more than others. I also see that one of my projects for the coming year is to tidy up the bookshelf.

One of my gifts from DH is a long weekend away. My mom graciously offered to watch the kids so we took off on the day after Christmas. Pismo beach is very pleasant this time of year.

We are staying at the Oxford Suites. Too bad I didn't think of bringing our swimming suits.

We ate at A.J. Spurs. Great Cajun Blackened Fish.
We saw the Monarchs.

DH has been most cooperative driving me around to the LQS in search of Cheddar fabric for Bonnie Hunter's New Mystery. That's right, a new mystery to start on my birthday!!! December 31st. I am so excited. DH asked my what I want to do for my birthday and I told him I wanted to stay home and sew, but now I really mean it.

I did bring along my camera but not the connector cord. The photos posted here I found on line. I will post mine when we get home.

Been Sewing

I have been enjoying the rainy weather by staying in and sewing. I got my B/W wonkey logs quilted. Not too happy with it though. I started with straight lines but without my walking foot, just the free motion foot (I hate to turn it in the machine). I started to pick it out and new there was no way I would finish so I changed it to meander, I liked it better. It is kinda mixed up but I consider it done.

My 8yo asked me to make him a bow tie. well what fun! I made three. He looks so sharp!

I made gluten free cookies. I just substuted rice flour for the white flour. The kids gobbled them up.

Whats Going On

I took this photo on Monday morning as I walked my way down the driveway to the car. It gets very slippery on our driveway with 6 inches of snow. We live where there is a lot of elevation change so snow here is clear there. I wish I could have snow days like the school does, but I have appointments to get to. I did skip the gym this day.

Here is my walking companion Tina. She was hoping for a real walk. She is a free range dog so she could go if she wanted to.

Today I am "Mom Of The Year"! I took the boys to our local ski resort, Dodge Ridge. It is 45 minutes from driveway to parking lot. We got there at noon and they snowboarded Until 3 for the discounted price of opening weekend.

There was nobody there! Well, hardly anybody anyway. I took my books and was preparing fun stuff for work. I am getting ready to do a group cleanse and detox class for the new year.

We got home to yummy chicken and rice and bean soup that DH made from scratch. He is the best DH ever. The best cook too.

Here is the newest addition to our family. This is Magheera or Bagheera or something like that. There seems to be some disagreement on what his name is, maybe well just call him Gheera. He was our neighbors cat that didn't make the move with them. Monday he has an appointment to get altered (We'll just say "tutored" so he doesn't get suspicious). He is a very good natured cat that is not the least bit intimidated by the dog, the kids, or all the activity going on all the time.Oops, we have a dear girl who does not feel well. She has the best bed in the house by the fire.
She woke from her nap and feels okay now.

The family is watching a movie and I am going to work on my Wonkey log cabin. What is going on at your house?

Wrap Up

What a fun birthday party. Pizza is always good especially at our local pizza parlor. I made a caterpillar cake. I think its the gummy worm legs that she likes so well. Fun was had by all.

The boys had their last game. They look sharp in their sweat outfits. Too bad their scores don't reflect how good they look.

The winter concert was the other night. I got this photo after it was all done. It was the best one.

Busy time

Wow, it has been a busy time here in the Lund Household.

Alea Turned 7 on Friday. Wow it is hard to believe my baby is 7. Then again .... We went to breakfast and dinner and today we are having a pizza party. When did birthdays turn into week long events? This is the last weekend for competitive soccer. The tournament is in Oakdale, a town about an hours drive. We will miss it and all the camaraderie and friendships. However our community is so small that half of the kids will play at one High School and half at the other. No photos of this game but they all look the same. Just add a lot of fog for this one.

The 8th grade had a pancake breakfast fund raiser.

Eric was disappointed that he was not able to participate. I am sure that it is the friendship time that he misses and not the civic duty.

This picture is of Eric's friends, I post it here for him. See, Eric is not the only one with long hair.

Do you think I have done any sewing?

BOM#8

Here is Judy's block of the month. This is number 8. I really like this one, I think it's the blue I like. I had to reprint my pattern to get a true 3 inch template. I guess I was just afraid to paper piece. I am looking forward to the next one. Hopefully I will get it done a little sooner.

Christmas Idea and a Couple of Tops.

Here is a Christmas gift idea you can suggest for the buyer of gifts for a quilter. Here is a pendant that my DH and DD bought for me last Christmas. I just love it. They got it at a small shop in Historic Downtown Sonora named Stone Ground. Here is their site and they do a great Internet business.

I took my kids to my Moms this weekend. We have 3 days to ourselves. Have already been out to dinner 2 times. My DH is a fabulous cook and likes to but there is something about going out to dinner without correcting someones table manners or handing out quarters for the machines at the pizza parlour.

My Mom and I got to sew a little(Yes Dionne, It is nice to sew with my mom). I put together wonkylogs a tutorial from TallGrass Prarie Studio. I think I am going to make it bigger with another 8.

She finished up her triangle logs top. I offered to quilt it for her if I could hang it in my office for a while before I gave it back to her. I don't think it will take too long. I just have to do it.

Well here is the latest on the Quilt Shack. The trim is up on both ends. While the weather is unseasonably warm DH decided to work on the outside. We cleaned up the old walk way and 8 years of oak leaves. I have to realize it does make sense but I would rather he get the inside done so I can move in. Oh well, patience my dear Watson. I know the laundry room will look a lot better when I get my stash out of there. Maybe DH knows that he will never see me once it is completed.

New Cards

I haven't sewn anything in 2 weeks. I am going sew crazy. I have been studying and redesigning my business. I designed some new business cards. I placed the order last night, I hope you don't find any typos. I liked this template because it reminded me of a quilt I can construct and display in my waiting room. I am really on a roll with this one!

Middle of November....

Rosemary Eichorn was our guest at the guild meeting this week. Here she is doing "show and tell" for a quilt she made her new grandson.

Rosemary makes beautiful quilted jackets and vests. We had a fashion show.

Here is Barbara and yours truly, modeling her clothing.

This is Chris with another original design.

I went to a Neuroimmunology seminar over the weekend and it was fabulous. I am really enjoying what I learned in the class and am applying it to my patient's care. Really fun, I have a new fire in my practice. Check out my other blog http://tamaralunddc.blogspot.com/ I started this blog a while ago but was not inspired to keep it up. It couldn't be as fun as quilting and my kids. But if you are interested in health topics related to what is going on in my office please stop by.

Here is my friend Mikel and The Root brothers, Heath and Aaron. We are all graduates of the Carrick Institute of Clinical Neurology. Mikel has a successful practice in Fresno Ca. Aaron and Heath practice in San Antonio TX.

Then with camera in hand I took photos at the seminar. It is pretty rude to take flash photography during the presentation and the photos of the crowd were pretty uninteresting. But I am glad to show you what was keeping me fueled up. Water and a grapefruit. Food gets really boring when you are at a nutritional seminar for doctors. Hardly anyone touched the candy dishes; I would have if the paper didn't crumple so loudly!

Lunchtime at the Chinese restaurant. I love the way the sun made the colors glow. This last picture were inspired by Chris at Pink Picket Fence.

The pictures she posts on her blog are always so wonderfully artsy. I am trying to have more of an eye.

No progress on the quilt shack. Sigh.

Children

Pizza party and Soccer awards! Here is Alea and her soccer coach Dave. By the way he was elected to the school board this week. GO DAVE! He had lots of nice things to say about my precious darling.

Here is a regular day at the Lund household. The boys got new sweat shirts. They slept in them and put them right back on in this am. It was cold this am 42 degrees they wanted to walk to the bus stop I guess to try out their keeping warm ability. They apparently failed because I got a text that they were cold and to pick them up. I know those of you in the Midwest are wondering what they are complaining about. Babies.
It was snack day for Kevin's class and guess who forgot? Yep me. I usually make chocolate chip pancakes on the morning of snack day. I had to go the store. Fortunately there is a market on the way. I picked up the babies and away we went.

I made them stop on the way out of the car for a photo op.
