Online Quilt Festival

Amy at Park City Girl is hosting an on line quilt festival. Here is my entry.

This is Old Tobacco Road designed as a mystery by Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com. There are lots of these quilts out there so it is not so original like most of the other work at this quilt festival, but it is my favorite. Maybe its the colors, maybe its because it was such a surprise, maybe its all the little pieces? I just really like this quilt. I have decided to give it to my SIL but can not bear to part with it yet. After I enter it into the local quilt show in September I will ship it to her.

I used free motion quilting on my regular Viking.

Down the Old Tobacco Road

It's done! Yeah I finished stitching the binding last night while watching T.V. with DH. We watched the new show with Christian Slater, My Own Worst Enemy. We enjoyed it.

I threw OTR into the washer and dryer and now it has all that crinkly goodness.

Weekend Business

Saturday was a day to travel to Stockton for a Soccer tournament. Stockton is a town about 1.5 hours drive. I got lost. I have been there before but not to this particular park. I was reading the map upside down! I turned right instead of left, etc... We were half an hour late! We have had a car with a navigation system for about 4 months. I have become dependent on it. Don't ask me why I decided to to drive the other car this day.

Jeff stayed home and managed the other children with their soccer games.

Sunday is my day of rest. Our church was doing a special project of not just going to church but Being the church. Today, instead of going to church you were invited to participate in some sort of service project. The girls and I went to the park in our community and helped to serve breakfast and distribute food to those who need it. The boys went back to Stockton for day 2 of soccer.

This afternoon I got time to quilt some on my Old Tobacco road quilt. Nicole dug out the Spartan then decided she would rather piece by hand. I would prefer that also because she has one speed and that is to the floor. I am afraid for her fingers. Alea wanted to try. Here she is looking really proud. She was making a 4 patch and trying to convince me to buy her her own Viking.
Many of you are following the progress of the quilt shack (Hi Don). Here are the latest pictures. DH has decided the easiest way of squaring up the end of the building is to rebuild it. The window too.

Top Done

I have never done flying geese for a border before and when I saw the
instructions for the borders with measurements I got a little anxious.
I thought I would just wing it, but after I thought about it and all
the work I put into it so far I had to try to make it fit. I followed
the instructions. They were easy to understand and follow.I think did
a pretty good job of having an even quilt. Looks great and glad
I pushed the envelope.

Here is yesterday's photo of the quilt shack. I only show you this photo so you can get the full effect of Ultimate Catch. When I got home the kids were filling me in on their new game of ultimate catch. They were standing on the 2X8s playing catch. The 6yo got a raspberry on her leg but no harm no foul. Jeff is putting the sub floor in and having to replace the wall supports. I heard him mention that maybe he should have started from scratch. Too late now Honey.

Quilt Shack Floor

Now this looks like a more stable floor! 2X8 on 16 inch centers all makes more sense to me now. I'm going with Laminate.

I guess I will be able to do aerobics in here if I choose to. That is the appropriate word.Choose. I have been having the worst time making it to the gym. I made myself go today, always feel better after, its is just getting there.

I quilted this for a friend last night. She is expecting a granddaughter soon so she make a quilt for her. She was worried that it wouldn't be done in time because all the local long armers are busy with the local quilt show coming up soon. So I offered to do it on my regular machine. It only took about an hour she had it all ready pinned and ready. Here is a closeup of the quilting.ere

Old Tobacco Road Mystery, Quilt Shack

This weekend had been fruitful in the quilting arena. We got 4 clues clues to Quiltville's latest mystery, Old Tobacco Road. I got them all done. I was up until 1 or 2 o'clock each night, but how peaceful. My SIL summed it up for me " You take pieces of something and make something beautiful. You can't wait to see the finished product." Well here is the inside of OTR just waiting for the borders.

I did get some time to quilt the sampler for my MIL. That is almost done!

I got a new chair! That is how I was able to sit all weekend and sew without my back screaming for an adjustment. Although, I can use one.


Jeff has been working very hard on the Quilt Shack. He took the week end and ripped up the floor and the walk way to the Shack. There is a lot of restoration or replacement to be done on the floor. See those broken boards? That is what happens when you load 3 cords of wood on 2X4s on 24 inch centers. Jeff is going on about joists and 2X8 and 16 inches and ...... all I can picture is... will I pick Bamboo or laminate or vinyl.


Oh, and by the way can you tell that one side of the roof is steeper than the other? Yep that's right. I just thought it was more scarry on the outside because there was no tree or bank.

At Home Quilting Retreat (Almost).

This is the weekend the Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com is giving us the clues for her latest mystery quilt Old Tobacco Road. She is revealing clues all weekend so we can get it done at our own pace. My pace is furious! I have decided I am going to try to get it done this weekend if that is possible. I was up Friday night until 1am and again tonight. Last night I finished 180 4 patches and tonight I finished the 98 pinwheels. I feel like a pinwheel expert. I don't know why I can't get as obsessive as about...cleaning the house? I will be glad when the quilt shack is done so I don't have to clean up all the time to use the kitchen table. I tried to convince Jeff that it would be ok to eat in the living room tonight but again... The Look.

He finished the roof of the quilt shack last night and started on the floor today. It was another scorcher 97 degrees.

The kids and I cleaned out a storage shed today and Jeff took most it to the dump. It was so full of junk that you had to stand at the door and through things in there. The wasps and squirrels or rats had quite the hotel going. But no more! DDs want to make it a play house like their cousins have.
